Easter Craft

So this morning I was pondering what to do for family home evening tonight. I was reading through a packet of papers my parents sent me over the weekend about the days leading up to Easter. As I read through the info and the events that took place each day the week before Easter Sunday, I had a flash of inspiration. Here is what I worked on and got done today in between taking care of the kids and household chores. There are 7 blocks for the week leading up to Easter. On the back of each block is a clothes pin. Each day we'll put in either a scripture or picture that depicts the events of that day, leading up to resurrection morning on Easter Sunday. (The pictures randomly placed in the picture above are for demonstration only). Now I just need to find some smaller sized pictures to use and even though we are a day late, we'll catch up and now have a great way to daily help us get ready for the real purpose of the Easter.

*Here's an updated version of it in its spot on our piano with the Easter picture and scripture cards I made last night after the kids went to bed. *

Craft it forward #2...

So what I'm going to count for my second craft it forward are these temple blocks I made for my Primary class. I wanted to give them a picture of the temple to remind them of President Monson's talk in conference. I know this is just for my class, but I figured I could count it since it's more than your basic handout since it required cutting, sanding, painting, modge podging, and more sanding. Anyhoo, here's number #2 craft it forward project, 3 more to still to do!

Temple picture and idea came from here:

Thrift Store Craft #3

Ok, I've been wanting to make a spring wreath for a while now. So with my new thrift store treasures I went to work.

I used these flowers
And this wreath.

Due to the lack of craft supplies available in this town, I had to alter what I orginally wanted to do slightly. But with some fake eggs and a butterfly from the craft store, I ended up with this:

I think it turned out pretty cute and is a nice springy addition to the front porch. Plus the whole thing cost me $2.70! And that thought alone makes me smile :)

Craft it forward...

So on my sisters blog awhile ago she had a challenge to 'craft if forward'. If you responded to her post, she would sometime in the next coming months send you something homemade, if in return, you made 5 things for others etc. Well, here was my first craft it forward. My mother-in-law took me out to a special lunch on St. Patricks Day. I decided I would give this to her as a little thank you and my first craft it forward. So, there's 1 down. Four more to go :)

This weeks Thrift store craft...

Ok, this weeks thrift store craft came about after I was cleaning up the twins room. The little kids love hats. But as I was picking up their room, I noticed how much space they took up in their toy bins. *Light-bulb* (have you ever seen Despicable Me? Hehe) Anyways, I had this idea that I should make something to hang above their toy bins to hang their hats on.
Soooo....
I took an extra piece of wood I had cut to replace the broken bed slats in the older boys room. (Which is why they are no longer allowed to jump on their beds). I rounded up the $1 bag of knobs I bought at the Thrift Store and got to work.

After painting a light coat of dark red on my board. I sanded and then stained the edges. I measured the spots for my knobs, did a little drilling, and voila!

The boys now have a cute rustic place to hang all their dress up hat and more room in their toy bins to place all the toys that are messing up the room!

While I was add it, I painted up this scrap of wood at the same time, put some vinyl on it to make a sign to hang above their Christ picture in their room as well.

Don't forget board...

I saw something like this on a blog one day and wanted to make one. I even had all the pieces, a leftover piece of beadboard from another craft I'd made. A square piece of metal from who knows where, but it's been hanging around for years just waiting for me to do something with it. The ribbon and jute was apart of my thrift store grab bag and the flower was one from a batch I won on a craft blog last summer. I glued some vintage buttons on some magnets I had. I all I need is to still hook a clip on top to hold letters to be mailed. The whole thing cost me next to nothing and now gives me a place to put the things I need to remember before I walk out the door. Perfect.

Thrift Store Makeover #1- Butterfly

Ok, here was my first thrift store craft makeover, my 50 cent butterfly. I had bought it for Abbey's room. Since it didn't require too much, I started with it. Here she is before, needing just a touch of love:

Here it is now!
A coat of red spray paint, three little flowers glued on and tadaa!

She's now ready for Abbey's wall in her room.
